The All Time WIS Baseball team (just for fun) Topic

When I have found the time, which is not in the past two weeks, I have been reading ALL the extant baseball forums from the "start" - we have them going back to 2008. They make great reading and I have learned a LOT including about the history of the people who play and post here and their relations online.

One of the sad things is that all of the posts by johnGPF, whom I like many newer players here never got to interact with, have been eliminated. I must assume that this was done by johnGPF himself, though I wouldn't know why. If you use the search engine, you can find threads that he started, but all of his own posts in them are gone.

The same is true, by the way, of grizzly_one's posts, though again I don't know why he would have removed all his posts from the forums. But it would be nice to occasionally hear his voice on these forums again.

I quoted JohnGPF and many others.

As the late Adrian Rogers said, "you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Professor is a Genius

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,
but had once failed an entire class.

--------------------------------------------

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK,
we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering,
blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

Moved to the Pit

Even though I posted this anecdote. I would have said it was new to me. I did recall this thread and JohnGPF had posted he hoped the attractive Alaskan Governor would be named as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate. This was months before she was chosen and most people were unfamiliar with Sarah Palin.

if mccain doesn't at least select alaska's governor ( Sarah Palin ) as his running mate, this is going to be a pretty dull election for me...

I thought it might be interesting to start a thread for users to post baseball related photos they have taken.

If you have some good ones, please post them here.

Please limit your posts to baseball related shots only. Major league, minor league, little league, whatever.

Here's one from opening day to get it started.

I've hauled many trailer loads of PBR out of the Tumwater Brewery when Pabst owned it and I worked there.

We used to get 2 free cases a month, and on "Beer Day" they would sell us up to 10 additional cases for $4.00 each.

36 pallets of 12oz cans in a 53' trailer is a sh__load of chilly boys!

God Bless you man. Oly stubbies are great! Back in high school we would skip school and go to the Olympia Brewery for a tour.
When did you go to school (or not!) in Olympia? The beer always tasted so damn good at the tasting room...

Great thread.... The old days.

I do miss Johngpf.  He was in a lot of ways the embodiembent of this site.

OzJohnno was a great guy.  He actually helped out my son by agreening to receive a paper cutout of a character named "Flat Stanley" and taking it on a picture tour of his town in Austrailia.  It made the newspaper in his town, and here in NC.

David_Brent, later known as mancunia - English guy who drank Stella Artois, and had a great (gutter) sense of humor.

I butted heads with caracarn and lemayripper.  Lemay wasn't anywhere near as good as he thought he was, but he was pretty good.  Caracarn.... screwed in the head.   I actually started a thread where I substituted "caracarn" for a body part (like: "After a big dump, be sure to wipe your caracarn.   If you get cut off in traffic, roll down your window, stick out your head, and yell "Caracarn" at the top of your lungs.  Richard Gere has a gerbil in his caracarn.... Etc)

I do take pride in making some themes that forced people to play the sim in a different way.  There's no sense in making a league that plays just like an open league.

I never got into the high cap leagues... I think they reduced your choices too much.

If one owner "owned" me, it would be shaybee.  I bet he's won 60% of our meetings.

When I came here, the sim was all about singles and braves field.  I lived through the superman Long A era, the low OAV pitchers, the $200k rotation, the $200 Babe Ruth and Gavvy Cravath, SYN leagues.  Tough Love league.  Some great USA vs the world leagues

Thanks for the memories... Good place to waste time.

I like to think of myself as "gentry" from the movie major league...everytime i watch it, i think maybe this is the directors cut, and he makes the team. But alas he doesnt. Everytime. Poor bastard, ive seen him get cut probably over 200 times.

With that, how the hell were ruth and gavy 200k players?

"MAJOR LEAGUE" Screenplay by David S. Ward SHOOTING DRAFT

Sure. there’s a new season upon us. But there’s one thing I never really liked to see during spring training — red-tag season.

I always felt bad that Bobby Gentry was singled out in the documentary about my 1988 Indians team. We made several rounds of cuts, but only Gentry here was shown getting a legitimate red tag.

He was sent down to Colorado Springs, our brand-new Triple-A club that was managed by former big-leaguer Steve Swisher that season, and he did pretty well but it wasn’t enough to get back to the bigs.

He later became a long-time fielding coach for the San Diego Padres, and I hear his boy made his big-league debut last season.
